China's Ministry of Transport (MoT) vice minister Weng Mengyong has given the strongest indication yet that the Government is considering abolishing the country's strict cabotage laws. These decree that only Chinese companies may relay cargo between domestic ports.rnWhen European Chamber president (China) Joerg Wuttke met with Mengyong to present the case that China should scrap its law and allow international companies to relay cargo between Chinese ports on June 18 this year, the answer was positive.rnMengyong stressed: 'International relay is a priority issue and the ministry is looking at reforming the process to allow transport of international cargo between Chinese ports.'
