Near zero freight rates, intense competition and falling cargo volumes due to the global economic downturn are current characteristics of the China/South Korea and China/Japan liner markets.rnNonetheless, long-term prospects appear relatively healthy and even now there are several opportunities that can be exploited by ocean carriers. The latter is especially true of the trade to/from Japan (see panel for information on the South Korea/China market).
