The main ports in the Benelux region suffered in 2009, with box throughputs well down on 2008's level.rnThey also handled fewer services as ocean carriers suspended some loops and/or pooled resources on others. This was particularly evident on routes to/from the Far East, South America and North America where as much as 30% of slot capacity was cut by some carriers over the course of the year.rnIn contrast, short-sea intra-European import/export and feeder services, particularly to/from the Baltic/Scandinavia and Iberia, proved more resilient.
