Volumes in the major container trades are weak, unit revenues are declining, overcapacity is increasing, profitability is negligible at best and the forecasts all point to more of the same - who would be a global liner company investor? Judging by the continuing eagerness of owners to invest huge amounts for new capacity, albeit offset by some disposals or cascading, there are many still prepared to keep their presence in container shipping whatever the cost.
