Earlier this month when the "Sasser" worm generated chaos around the globe by exploiting a flaw in Microsoft's Windows operating system and infecting hundreds of thousands of computer networks, one could almost hear the collective sigh of thousands of IT managers: "Not again." Battling viruses and security vulnerabilities is nothing new to any organization that relies heavily on Windows. It's enough for many to consider ripping it out and replacing it with Linux. After all, one never hears of security breaches with Linux, so it must be, by its nature, inherendy more secure. But is it? Not so, according to industry watchers.
