International Association for Mathematical Geosciences 2012 John Cedric Griffiths Teaching Award

The 2012 Griffiths Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Helmut Schaeben from the Technical University Bergakademie (School of Mines) in Freiberg, Germany, at a ceremony during the 34th International Geological Congress in Brisbane, Australia. After accepting the award, Helmut made the keynote presentation entitled 'Potential Modeling, Conditional Independence and Graphical Models'. He was selected for this recognition by the IAMG Awards Committee chaired by Jef Caers. Helmut is the ninth recipient of this biennial award, started in 1996 to honor the memory of a pioneer geomathematician and mentor of a genera-tion of students. 2012 Coincided with the birth centennial of John Griffiths.
