First, make sure the Barracuda drive's jumper is set to Master, assuming that the new drive is your only hard drive and the one on which you intend to install XP Professional. Examine the back of the drive; you'll find a small area between the four-pin Molex power connector and the IDE cable connector with a grid of 10 pins. A tiny plastic bridge, or "jumper," should be joining two of the pins. Make sure the jumper covers the correct pair of pins to designate the drive as a Master drive; the proper configuration should appear on a diagram on the label atop the drive. (If you can't grasp the jumper with your fingers, use tweezers or needle-nose pliers.) Once the jumper is set correctly to Master, and you've made sure the IDE and power connectors are seated snugly, try booting up again.
