Ninth Circuit Overturns District Court Rulings Favoring Mattel in Barbie v. Bratz Litigation

Judge Kozinski of the Ninth Circuit opened the courts opinion in Mattel, Inc. v. MGA Entertainment, Inc. [No. 09-55673 (07/22/2010)] by asking, "Who owns Bratz?" In recounting the facts of the suit, Judge Kozinski noted that Barbie had been the unrivaled queen of the fashion-doll market throughout the latter half of the 20th century. But 2001 saw the introduction of Bratz, "The Girls with a Passion for Fashion!"
