At the end of last year, I had reason to spend a few days working in a Tokyo hair salon as research for a slightly off-the-wall project I'm involved with. While there, I met and interviewed all manner of young Japanese, learning a lot about the culture that the usual flitting between press calls and bars would never have exposed me too. Aside from the commonly expressed desire of most under-thirties to escape the workoholic guidelines laid down by their baby boomer parents, one thing that struck me when discussing lifestyles was their almost total lack of interest in technology. Which is odd when you think about it.
