What's the threat? Hackers are creating fake Edge extensions for several of the world's most popular VPNs. In the past month Microsoft has removed extensions that claimed to be VPNs from NordVPN, Windscribe, AdGuard and TunnelBear. Once installed, these VPNs were showing users suspicious adverts, and redirecting their Google searches to a dubious site called OKSearch. How can you stay safe? Fake extensions are nothing new, but until now they've been a bigger problem on Google's Chrome Web Store, which has been the world's most popular browser for over a decade. But where users go, scammers always follow. So as Edge continues to gain ground on Chrome after its relaunch last January, expect more malicious extensions to appear on its store.
