摘要

The discipline of competitive intelligence has yet to be adopted in a systematic way by most companies in Brazil. This lack of CI practices on a broad scale can be explained by several factors.rnFirst and foremost, cultural factors impact the acceptance of CI. The untranslatable concept of "jeitinho, "which refers to the common practice of "cutting red tape," "bending the rules," "looking the other way," or seeking an alternative "way out," may explain common behavioral practices that affect the way decisions are made. This behavior pattern spills over into the professional practices of Brazilians. In Brazil such anticipative activities as competitive intelligence are perceived as unnecessary for business success and thus become the exception rather than the rule.
