Ahypervisor (i.e., a virtual machine monitor) is a vir-tualization platform that allows multiple operating systems to run on a host computer at the same time. Hypervisors are currently classified in two types: Type 1 is software that runs directly on a given hardware platform as an operating system control program; type 2 is software that runs within an operating system (OS) environment. By decoupling hardware from the OS, the hypervisor layer has, in effect, created a new data center OS, and a new potential for dividing processing power into virtual machines that can be created, moved and erased at the speed of electrons.
