Fair use not fair? Australian 'Copyright and the Digital Economy' report receives a cool response

In the wake of a number of overseas investigations into the functioning of copyright such as the Hargreaves Report and the Irish Copyright Review Committee's consultation, the previous Commonwealth Government decided that it would be worth updating the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) in respect of exceptions to copyright and the statutory licensing schemes. Accordingly, on 29 June 2012, the then-Attorney General Nicola Roxon MP issued terms of reference to the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) for an inquiry to be headed by Professor Jill McKeough as Commissioner.
