In Switzerland, authorization and inspection of the use of feed additives are regulated by the Swiss law on agriculture and the subsequent statutory orders. Thereby, the security and the effectiveness are important aspects to be taken into consideration. The Swiss Federal Research Station for Animal Production and Dairy Products - an agricultural research station of the Swiss Federal Office of Agriculture - is in charge of the inspection of feedstuffs. On the other hand and based on the law on food, the adequate use of feed additives on the farm is inspected by the cantonal authorities. Both controls are to be understood as some first steps in the long chain of food control.
