Firewall Requirements for Securing VoIP

Security is emerging as a major concern in the deployment of VoIP in the' enterprise. Traditional firewalls, which were never engineered for real-time media, can seriously impair VoIP performance. Firewall-piercing solutions, which perform a sort of "end run" around the firewall for realtime traffic, are drawing some attention from service providers, integrators and end users; though it's generally conceded that such devices may compromise network security to some degree. A new class of "VoIP firewalls" (or session border controllers) is also emerging to provide basic security services for VoIP.
