This special issue results from the work of the cross-generational workshop on audience research that was co-organized by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action IS0906 "Transforming Audiences, Transforming Societies" and the Young Scholars Network of the European Communication Research and Education Association (YECREA)-at the Facultes Universitaires Saint-Louis (FUSL) Brussels, in April 2012. The event was presented in collaboration with the "Audience and Reception Studies" section of the ECREA.
