Mediating Migration

Issues of immigration and migrants continue to dominate news reporting. In this volume Hegde explores how media and media coverage intersect with the phenomenon of migration. She writes, "media practices have historically shaped be imagining of forgotten pasts and possible futures. Old letters and shoeboxes, fading black-and-white images of distant histories, and long-distance telephone calls with crackly connections have given away to new media platforms and afffor-dances, which now constitute the transformed the epistolary base and the communication infrastructure of the migrant experience" (p. 3). The communication change affects both the migrant experience as well as how people view and understand migration. Those technologies that have created a transnational consciousness affect every aspect of migration.
