Analysis of Unbalanced Response of Rigid Rotor Supported by AMBs under Coupling Dynamic and Control Methods

The main helium circulator is the corecomponent of the High Temperature Reactor (HTR).Mechanical machining errors and assembly errors cancause uneven distribution of rotor mass. When the rotorrotates, the unbalanced mass will generate unbalancedforce which will change the rotor's axis trajectory.By coupling the rotor dynamics method and theelectromagnetic bearing system control theory, themotion of the rotor is modeled. Three representativeunbalanced conditions of the impeller position, thebearing position and the centroid position are assumed tosimulate the unbalance response of the rotor, and theinfluence of changes in the stiffness and damping on theunbalance response of the rotor is analyzed by adjustingthe stiffness and the damping of the rotor. The resultsof the analysis show that the bearings farther from theunbalanced position (UBP) have larger rotor displacementsand bearing loads. Increasing Active Magnetic Bearings(AMBs) stiffness and damping will increase the bearingload and reduce the response displacement of the rotor.Therefore, the stiffness and damping of AMBs must bedesigned by considering the bearing capacity and thedisplacement limit of the rotor.
