The method involves removing a holding device from a middle housing (5). An accelerometer i.e. laser vibrometer, is arranged to measure vibrations of the housing. A turbine housing (1) is connected with a compressed air source, and a rotor (6) is accelerated by driving a turbine wheel (7) with compressed air at a normal operating speed. A phase position of the vibrations induced by unbalance of the rotor is determined for an angle position of the rotor at measuring rotational speed. The unbalance of the rotor to be compensated is determined using the measured vibrations and the phase position. An independent claim is also included for a device for dynamic measurement of unbalance of a rotor of a turbocharger body unit.
