I read with interest the editorial comment in CM 21 May, and I'm keen to put the record straight. The editor says that he struggled to understand why the RHA thought one in every two UK trucks was sitting idle. Well it's not the RHA that made this declaration. It was the overwhelming conclusion of the 8,500 operators who responded to a survey we undertook at the end of April to better understand how the pandemic was affecting them and what support the industry needed to recover from it. In particular, we wanted to assess the early impact of the crisis on operators, focusing on numbers of inactive trucks and drivers.
