摘要

Fraudulent hauliers will now be referred to traffic commissioners (TCs) for licence revocation, after HMRC announced it would be boosting the amount of information it shared with other agencies. The tax authority wants to crack down on the £3bn-worth of excise fraud committed every year and hopes that TCs and Vosa can provide a more effective deterrent to hauliers considering transporting illicit alcohol and tobacco or diesel duty evasion. HMRC agreed a protocol with Vosa and the TCs in 2011, but it has recently been reviewed to increase the flow of information. "Evasion of excise duty by a minority of hauliers distorts free and fair competition, placing the majority of legitimate hauliers at a disadvantage. HMRC is committed to helping to create a level playing field," said a spokeswoman. In Northern Ireland, HMRC will refer cases to the Transport Regulation Unit.
