Even though Scania was building a name for itself in the UK with loose engines, being among the first to buy a new Scania lorry in 1966 was still a leap of faith. This LB76 tractor was sold by WWS, a dealer in south London in 1967, later to become part of the Scantruck group we know today. In January 1949, one WA Heymann, previously a traffic manager for a London transport contractor and packer, went into partnership with a Mr EA Jeune, a haulier and garage owner, and J&H Transport Services was born. Their clearing house turned over £20,000 in that first year, and in the following five, they became one of the largest operations in the country. By 1955, and aided by a rail strike, their only problem was finding the lorries to move the freight.
