Driver who routinely created false driving records disqualified for 12 months by TC

An aberdeenshire-based driver has been disqualified for 12 months for creating false drivers' hours records In a written decision following a public inquiry in Aberdeen in June, the TC for Scotland Joan Aitken ordered James Smart's professional driving licence to be revoked from 30 September. Smart was working as a driver for Crimond-based Smart Transport, run by his wife Maureen and authorised for one vehicle. In July 2012, Smart was driving the 44-tonne vehicle when it was stopped by a DVSA traffic examiner at Beattock, Dumfriesshire. Its licence disc had expired in January 2012.
