Brian Yeardley Continental is expecting substantial savings after investing £1m on 11 Euro-6 Mercedes-Benz trucks. The 4x2 Actros GiqaSpace trucks, fitted with predictive powertrain and high-performance engine brake, were chosen after trials of various makes, during which the Mercedes demonstrator returned more than 10.5mpg over 10,000 miles of long-distance work. The first new truck went into operation on 1 January; the remainder will arrive in June. A further 20 trucks, likely to be of the same marque, will be bought in the next two years, said MD Kevin Hopper. "We are happy with Mercedes and its Euro-6 engine," he said. "The trucks will average 2mpg to 3mpg more than the vehicles they replace."
