Studies of the career aspirations of young people

"Nothing in common: The career aspirations of young Britons mapped against projected labour market demand (2010-2020)" was a collaborative study by the UK Commission for Employment & Skills and the Education and Employers Taskforce. The report from it was published in March 2013. It showed a less than 1 % interest across the board in jobs carrying a Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code C25 - Transport and mobile machine drivers and operatives, against a projected net increase in labour requirement of 4%. Even more concerning was the finding that, once possible occupations were drilled down further, a maximum of 0.3% of respondents in any age group expressed a specific occupational preference for the same SOC code C25 when described as "driver/haulier".
