Recently, Laurie Dealer was flicking through the pages of CM's sister publication Motor Transport. In its advertising section was information from the New Zealand-based Southpac Trucks dealership outlining its UK recruitment drive to fill vacancies in its service department. The advert from the Kiwi concern - dealer for Daf and Kenworth trucks - states it needs "experienced personnel to fill a number of vacancies in our service operations throughout New Zealand", with relocation assistance available. Positions available include service administrator roles, service foremen, a service leading hand and technicians. Laurie Dealer can see the lure of working down under: the common language and cultural links, the fresh air, and the opportunity to partake in a few bottles of cold Steinlager at the rugby. From a driving perspective there's the added bonus of travelling through miles of twisty, mountainous, Lord of the Rings type terrain to the next delivery. Surely preferable to being stuck in a traffic jam on the M6?
