Highways Agency trials tyre pressure monitoring

The Highways Agency (HA) is to conduct a three-month trial of a drive-over tyre-pressure monitoring system for CVs at Keele services from next month. The system, developed by technology firm Wheelright, gives drivers a tyre pressure reading as they drive over a plate. It will be installed at the Welcome Break service station on the M6 and will be available free to drivers of commercial and private vehicles from 16 March. The HA said that incidents involving CVs as a result of incorrectly inflated tyres take longer to resolve and have a more significant effect on the road than car tyre failures. Between April 2013 and September 2014, it recorded 66,500 wheel or tyre incidents on the road network.
