Almost two years ago driver Harry Clarke passed out at the wheel of his refuse truck, crashing and killing six people in Glasgow city centre. A five-week inquiry into the accident found that it could have been avoided had Clarke, who had previously fallen ill whilst driving a bus, not lied about his medical history to his employer. Operators need to take their drivers' health seriously, says solicitor Jonathon Backhouse. It is not just people's lives but also their licence that is at risk.
