It is a well-documented fact that the trade in pirate DVDs has reached almost epidemic levels in the UK. The industry's policing body, FACT, reckon almost three million pirate DVDs were seized in 2004, a 47 per cent increase on the previous year. Reports of market traders and car boot sellers caught selling counterfeit DVDs appear in the media on a weekly basis and last year a hard-hitting publicity campaign by the DVD industry highlighted the connection between the trade in pirate DVDs and organised crime. Pirate DVDs are no longer the sole province of the dodgy bloke on the street corner; they are available everyday social situations, including workplace.
