Shipping companies trying to deal with the difficulties posed by sanctions on Iran have been devising some interesting tactics for getting shipments through and overcoming the problem of withdrawn insurance. More EU sanctions against Iran are due July 1st.In one recent case observed by the 1MB, a major carrier had listed on its website a container bound for Iran that was due to be transhipped through Jebel Ali. The 1MB pointed out to the carrier that to do this risked a heavy fine for sanctions busting, and the carrier responded by revising its website to show the container's final destination as Jebel Ali and changing the bill of lading accordingly.
