INEFFECTIVE anti-money laundering and counterfinancing of terrorism (AML/CFT) systems and lack oftransparency are leaving the door open to increasinglysophisticated money laundering schemes.These are two findings of the 8th edition of the BaselAML Index, an independent, research-based rankingthat assesses countries' risk exposure to moneylaundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF).They may help to explain why countries generallyconsidered “safe” for investment have been hittingheadlines recently with high-profile money launderingscandals.
