PREFACE TO THE SPECIAL ISSUE

This Special Issue comprises representative research papers that were based on work that was presented at the 24th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems (ICDERS), held July 28-August 2, 2013, in Taipei, Taiwan. The topics at this colloquium fell, as its name implies, into two general categories: the dynamics of explosions, which explores the interrelationship between energy deposition in compressible media and the flow field, as it occurs typically in detonations; and the dynamics of reactive systems, which explores the steady and nonsteady coupling between flow systems and exothermic reactions occurring within them, such as that which occurs typically in deflagrations. In the 24th Colloquium, seven special topics sessions were organized, and the papers in this issue reflect some of these as well. The results of research from around the world performed on these topics are presented at the colloquium, with a mixture of analytical, computational, and experimental studies.
