The business conditions under which modern and competitive organizations must function in today's global and highly technological business environment are far more numerous and complex than in previous decades as new business threats surface that can handicap the ability of an organization to achieve its business goals and objectives. These threats can derive from: 1 Increased global relationships and competition; 2 Increased application and use of advanced information and other technologies; 3 The need to effectively function in a global environment; 4 Major increase in accessibility to often times sensitive information by a host of third external parties, such as: 5 Customers with online access to company products and information 6 Third-party strategic business partners that provide products and services that any individual enterprise cannot provide by itself in the form of hard and soft (e.g., software) products to enable a given organization to render its own products effective and viable. These third parties are given access to confidential information in order for the marriage of company and external products to function.
