Geotech

The previous seven installments in this series on Technical Textiles, have covered seven important market segments, viz., Clothtech, Medtech, Mobiltech, Protech, Sporttech, Hometech and Buildtech. This installment is on Geotech which includes technical textiles for earth related ('Geo') underground work, road construction, construction of waste tips, ground stabilization, soil reinforcement, pit linings, erosion control etc. Woven, knitted and nonwoven textiles find application in these areas. Although manmade fibres are favoured, Indian coir and jute fibres, by virtue of their ecological and cost factors, are finding application in Geotech. This market segment addresses road and civil engineers, building companies, government agencies and local authorities because many large-scale building and renovation projects would not be possible without technical textiles. During the period 2000-2005, while Geotech showed the largest growth with Medtech, it is projected as the sole leader during 2005-2010. Geotech market in India is also expected to grow phenomenally within the next few years.
