Colour differences and colour fastness of mulberry silk with natural dye - Butea frondosa

Most of the natural dyes need a chemical in the form of a metal salt to create an affinity between fibre and dye. Natural dyes do not adhere permanently to the fibre without die use of chemicals known as mordants. They fade away or bleed unless treated with mordants.rnMordants are considered as an integral part of the natural dyes. The use of mordant can alter the hue and dye uptake. Those dyes which do not have any affinity for the fibre can be applied by using the mordant. The use of mordant increases the fastness properties by forming an insoluble compound of the dye with mordant within the fibre. Also, in case of the dyes having affinity for the fibre, the fastness of the colour is improved by the mordant.
