Rethinking Liaison Programs for the Humanities

This issue brief, written by Danielle Cooper and Roger C. Schonfeld and published by Ithaka S+R, examines the role of liaison librarians in the modern research library. The authors built this study upon the results of three earlier studies conducted by Ithaka S+R into the research experiences of scholars in three humanities fields, specifically, history, art history, and religious studies. The results of these studies and an extensive literature review are used to examine the current practices, trends, and demand for disciplinary-based academic liaison services. They are careful to point out that the results of the study are based upon the three specific disciplinary fields studied in the earlier reports and may not be generalizable to other disciplines.
