Does art imitate life, or life art? Before you answer, consider the following: "The nearest garage is 75 miles, so I bought a LaSalle," explains a man drawn in a 1939 advertisement for Cadillac's companion car. This and other LaSalle ads from The Saturday Evening Post were illustrated by noted artist Steven Doha-nos, who also completed more than 300 Post covers throughout the years. In fact, the pipe-smoking man under the wide-brimmed hat in this western scene was the artist himself, drawn in self-portrait.
