2005 Chrysler 300C SRT-8: The More the Merrier

When writing about the all-new Chrysler 300 for the May 2004 issue of Automobile magazine, Mark Gillies began his report with this observation: "It's hard to know whether Chrysler's gamble of building an unashamedly old-fashioned, American-style sedan—big inside and out, rear-wheel drive, with the option of a honking V-8—will get buyers flocking into its showrooms, but the 300 is pretty sweet." Not to worry. The 300 is now well-represented on streets, highways, and the odd rap music video, with buyers lured by its big-car room and muscular, tailored styling. From the start of production in January 2004 through February of this year, 147,167 of the 2005-model 300s had already rolled out of the Brampton, Ontario, Canada, factory for customers worldwide. Buyers are apparently drawn to power, too. Chrysler Group reports that the 300C version, with its standard 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, accounts for about 33 percent of the line's sales activity.
