摘要

Shortly before World War II, Powel Crosley, Jr., made his dream of being an automaker come true. After the war, he enjoyed his little car's best years. Crosley Field, home of the Cincinnati Reds through 1970, had a notorious quirk in left field: a 15-degree incline called "the terrace," which frustrated many outfielders. Babe Ruth, playing one of his last games for the Boston Braves in 1935, fell on his face as he headed up the incline to snag a fly. In a way that ballpark typified its owner, a quirky but ingenious Cincinnati native whose baseball interest was just one facet of a glittering career as inventor, entrepreneur, clairvoyant, and optimist.
