The headline on one advertisement for the 1942 Chevrolet read "Economize without any compromise." It was timely advice, considering that the ad appeared in The Saturday Evening Post issue of December 6,1941. The next day, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii would be attacked; the U.S. would be at war; and, with civilian automobile production soon halted and tires and gasoline rationed, American motorists would be pressed to get the most from their existing cars for more than three years.
