During the late Thirties and into the Forties, Fords were becoming ever more dated compared with the competition. Increasingly stubborn in his old age, Henry Ford resisted "new-fangled" ideas like hydraulic brakes and independent front suspensions that competitors' salesmen were using to seal increasing numbers of deals. OI' Henry finally relented and allowed "juice" brakes on his 1939 models, but transverse-leaf-sprung suspension persisted until the introduction of the 1949 Ford.
