America was in the early years of its post-World War II performance boom when a most unexpected V-8-powered car hit the market. It wasn't from any of the Big Three or a fringe player such as Allard or Kurtis, but rather from a manufacturer capable of going toe to toe with most anyone. The car was so sophisticated, so light on its feet, that Detroit offered nothing like it, which caused at least one of its major manufacturers to buy an example. That jewel of a car was Fiat's now-highly collectible 8V.
