A Touch of Classic: Styling the 1970 Lincoln Continental

In 1961, Ford Motor Company's Lincoln-Mercury design studio found itself with a new chief: Arnott "Buzz" Grisinger. During the years that he ran the studio, Mercurys had to share the same body as Fords, so it took a lot of imagination to make Mercurys look distinct. In an odd irony, sometimes Mercury proposals from Grisinger's studio beat out those from the Ford Studio and became production Fords from which the Mercury was then adapted. It wasn't often that his studio got to design a truly new car more or less on its own terms, but just such an opportunity presented itself in June 1967, when work began on an all-new 1970 Lincoln Continental.
