The proposition was shocking, one that no proper lady would be expected to entertain. Yet here it was in the pages of the June 1955 issue of House Beautiful. "Every woman needs a second love," said the advertisement for Chevrolet. The scene was suburban America, a contemporary house in the background, a woman behind the wheel of a brand-new red Bel Air convertible as her husband kisses her good-bye, with a second 1955 Chevy, a four-door sedan, parked behind them. Of course, that second love was supposed to be her "Motoramic" Chevrolet. The neighborhood gossips would have to find another target.
