China's thermal coal prices nudged up slightly in March while stocks at Qinhuangdao fell as an impending overhaul of a key railway prompted some end-users to increase purchases to build up their stockpiles. Daqin, China's leading coal-dedicated rail line, was to start a month-long major maintenance programme from 26 March, industry sources said. During that time, the Daqin line, which transports coal from Shanxi, Shaanxi and Western Mongolia to Qinhuangdao port, will be down for 3-4 hours a day and the amount of coal transported will be cut by about 200,000t.
