摘要

Parathyroid hormone (PTH; Parathyrin) has become one of the most frequently requested hormone measurements in clinical endocrinology. PTH plays a critical role in regulating the concentration of calcium ions in blood, along with the more long-term regulation by calcitriol and the transient effect elicited by calcitonin. In patients with disorders of calcium metabolism, measurement of serum or plasma PTH is most valuable in differentiating hypercalcemia due to primary hyperpara-thyroidism from other hypercalcemic disorders, in the differential diagnosis of hypocalcemia, in monitoring patients with chronic kidney disease, and in managing treatments affecting the calcium/phosphate metabolism.
