STUDY FINDS EVEN HEALTHY LUNGS LABOR AT LEGAL POLLUTION LIMITS

Ozone exposure, even at levels deemed safe by current clean air standards, can have a significant and negative effect on lung function, according to a new study by researchers at the University of California Davis (UCD) campus. The National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for ozone was recently revised by the United States (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency to set lower limits for ozone concentrations. The new research indicates that the threshold for reduced lung function induced by ozone exposure in healthy young subjects is below this standard.
