Volvo Cars presented a battery electric version of its Volvo C30 at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) held in Detroit, Michigan, in January. The next step for Volvo will be to build a small fleet of test cars by the end of 2010. Select users will drive these test battery electric vehicles (BEVs) during a two-year trial period starting in 2011. The Swedish Energy Agency is supporting the project.rnThe electric C30 looks like a regular Volvo C30, except that the gauges and graphics are somewhat different. The new instrument panel shows the road speed, energy consumption and a number of new symbols such as a gauge for battery charge status. An electric motor uses about 25 percent of the energy of an engine running on gasoline.
