VOLVO TRUCKS U.S. NATURAL GAS STRATEGY INCLUDES 13 LITER ENGINE

Volvo Trucks has announced plans to launch a new 13 liter engine powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) for North America in 2014 featuring Westport high pressure direct injection (HPDI) technology. The engine's advanced diesel ignition technology will provide significant fuel efficiency gains compared with natural gas engines currently on the market. The LNG engine will join the company's previously announced offering of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered Volvo VNM and VNL model day-cabs. As part of its corporate strategy for North American markets, Volvo is also testing another fuel that can be produced from natural gas, dimethyl ether (DME), which it believes also has the potential to become an attractive alternative fuel.
