DOE AWARDS $10 MILLION TO DEVELOP ADVANCED BIOFUELS

The United States (U.S.) Department of Energy (DOE) has announced awards worth a total of more than $10 million in federal funds to five projects in California, Washington, Maryland and Texas. These projects will develop new technologies to convert biomass into advanced biofuels and bioproducts, including plastics and chemical intermediates. These projects will use innovative synthetic biological and chemical techniques to convert biomass into sugars that can be transformed into bioproducts and biofuels for cars, trucks and airplanes.
